How to choose a laptop charger
Wattage. Check the output rating printed on your original charger and choose a replacement with the same wattage or higher. Chargers in our range are listed at 65 W, which covers many thin-and-light laptops and ultrabooks. Gaming laptops and workstations often need considerably more, so do not assume 65 W will be enough.
Connector type. Most newer laptops charge through USB-C, while older models and many business laptops use a round barrel plug or a brand-specific tip. A USB-C charger needs no tip at all. A universal charger comes with a set of tips, so confirm that your exact laptop model is on the compatibility list before buying.
Universal or original. A universal charger is practical if you own several laptops or want one spare for different devices. An original-style charger from the laptop maker is the simpler choice if you want an exact match for one model. Some chargers in our range are described as universal, and one is listed for laptops, smartphones and tablets.
Ports and simultaneous charging. Some chargers have one USB-C port, others have two, and the range includes models that connect up to two devices at once. With multi-port chargers the total power is usually shared, so the laptop may charge more slowly when a phone is also plugged in.
Input voltage. A charger rated for 100 to 240 V works on South African mains and in most other countries, which matters if you travel. Both 100 to 240 V and 90 to 264 V input ranges appear in our range.

Laptop charger FAQ
Can I use a universal laptop charger with any laptop?
No, a universal charger only works with laptops listed as compatible. You need the right tip for your laptop's connector and a voltage and wattage that match its requirements. Check the model list before buying.
What wattage laptop charger do I need?
You need a charger that matches or exceeds the wattage on your original adapter. Many ultrabooks use around 65 W, but larger laptops often need more. A charger with too little power may charge slowly or fail to keep up under heavy use.
Can I charge a laptop with a USB-C charger?
Yes, if the laptop supports charging over USB-C and the charger provides enough power. A 65 W USB-C charger suits many thin laptops. Check your laptop's required wattage first, because a phone charger with a lower output will not charge most laptops properly.
Is it safe to use a higher-wattage charger?
Generally yes, provided the voltage and connector match what the laptop expects. The laptop draws only the power it needs, so a higher wattage rating does not push extra power into it. A charger with lower wattage than the original is the one to avoid.
