Lavalier or shotgun. A lavalier clips to clothing a few centimetres from the speaker's mouth, so it records voice consistently even when the person moves or the room is noisy. A shotgun microphone sits on the camera and picks up sound from the direction the lens points, which is quicker to set up but captures more of the room.
Connector and compatibility. Check the plug before anything else.
