Dust filters and fan grilles

Dust filters and fan grilles

Dust filters and fan grilles for PC cooling fans, aimed at anyone building a computer or keeping an existing one clean. Our range of over 20 products covers fan sizes from 4 cm to 14 cm, with filters and grilles from INLINE, SilverStone, DEMCIflex, Kolink and Lian Li.

How to choose a dust filter or fan grille

Fan diameter. Measure the fan frame or check the product specification before ordering, because a filter that is too small leaves gaps and one that is too large will not sit flat. Our range includes 4 cm, 6 cm, 8 cm, 9.2 cm and 14 cm sizes, so 80 mm and 92 mm fans are the best covered.

Filter or grille. A filter uses fine mesh to catch dust before it reaches the heatsink or case interior. A grille is a more open guard that keeps cables and fingers away from the blades and does little against dust. Decide which problem you actually have, or choose a product that combines both.

Material and finish. Aluminium is the material most often listed in our range, and it holds its shape well, does not rust and is easy to wipe clean. Black suits most cases, while silver blends in with lighter builds and aluminium cases.

Airflow and upkeep. Finer mesh traps more dust but restricts airflow a little more, which matters most on small, fast-spinning fans. Choose a filter you can remove without taking the cooler apart, and plan to clean it regularly, since a clogged filter cuts cooling more than a clean one.

Brands we carry

  • INLINE: the largest group in our range, a German brand known for PC accessories and cables, with a good spread of fan sizes.
  • SilverStone: a PC case, power supply and cooling manufacturer, so its filters and grilles are designed around its own cooling hardware.
  • DEMCIflex: a specialist in custom-cut dust filters for PC cases, fans and radiators.
  • Lian Li: best known for aluminium PC cases, which is reflected in the aluminium finish of its accessories.

Also in our range: Kolink.

Frequently asked questions

What does a PC dust filter do?

A PC dust filter stops dust from being pulled into the case or onto the cooler by the fans. This keeps heatsink fins and components cleaner for longer. The filter collects the dust instead, and you remove it and clean it.

Do dust filters reduce cooling performance?

A filter adds some resistance to airflow, so there can be a small effect on cooling. A clean, fine-mesh filter usually costs little, while a dirty one can cost more than having no filter at all. Regular cleaning keeps the effect small.

How often should I clean a fan filter?

Check it every month or two, and clean it whenever a layer of dust is visible. Rooms with pets, carpets or open windows clog filters faster. Most metal filters can be brushed, vacuumed or rinsed, then dried fully before refitting.

How do I know which size of fan grille I need?

Match the size to your fan diameter, such as 80 mm, 92 mm or 140 mm. Measure across the fan frame, not just the blades, and check the screw hole spacing as well. If the fan size is listed in centimetres, 8 cm equals 80 mm and 9.2 cm equals 92 mm.
