Casing extras

Casing extras

Casing extras are the add-ons that go in, on or around a PC case: dust filters, USB hubs and docking stations, fan controllers, brackets and stands, front-panel buttons and switches, and replacement panels. They suit anyone building, upgrading or maintaining a desktop. Brands in our range include Demciflex, Equip, MediaRange and Verbatim.

How to choose casing extras

Check the fit first. Most accessories in this category are made for a specific size or layout. Measure your fan openings (commonly 120 mm or 140 mm), the vent areas and the free bays before you order.

Choose the right type of dust filter. Magnetic filters are easy to lift off and rinse, while framed or screw-on filters stay put on cases that are moved often. A finer mesh catches more dust but restricts airflow a little, so it matters most on intake fans in dusty rooms.

Look at the ports on hubs and docking stations. Count the USB-A and USB-C ports you need, and check the connection to the computer. A powered hub is the safer option for external hard drives and other devices that draw a lot of current. Docking stations can also add extras such as HDMI, Ethernet or card readers, so list what you plug in today.

Match the fan controller to your fans. Check the number of channels, the connector type (3-pin or 4-pin) and the maximum load each channel can handle. A controller with a few channels is enough for a typical case, but a large build with many fans needs more headroom.

Think about cables and mounting. Front-panel buttons, switches and brackets need enough cable length to reach the motherboard header or power supply. Stands and brackets should suit the weight and shape of what they hold, whether that is a drive, a graphics card or the case itself.

Casing extras FAQ

Do I need dust filters on my PC case?

Yes, filters are worth fitting if your case draws in air from a room with ordinary household dust. They stop most of it reaching the fans, heatsinks and graphics card, which keeps temperatures steadier and cleaning easier. Fit them on intake fans and vents first.

What is the difference between a USB hub and a docking station?

A USB hub adds more USB ports to one connection on your computer. A docking station does the same but usually adds other connections too, such as video outputs, Ethernet or card readers. Choose a hub if you only need ports, and a dock if you want to link a screen and network as well.

Can a fan controller work with 4-pin PWM fans?

Often yes, but it depends on the controller. Many controllers adjust fan speed by changing voltage, and these usually run 4-pin fans through their 3-pin connection without PWM control. Check the product details for supported connectors and the maximum load per channel.

How do I know if a dust filter will fit my case?

Measure the fan or vent opening, and compare it with the size listed for the filter. For fan filters, note the fan size and, where listed, the screw hole spacing. For larger vents such as the top or the power supply intake, measure the width and length of the open area.
