Case fans

Case fans

Case fans are the cooling fans that move air through a PC case, and this category suits builders who want better airflow or a quieter system. Our range of over 600 models covers 120 mm fans, larger fans from 140 mm up and small fans up to 92 mm, from brands such as LIAN LI, Noctua, Phanteks and ARCTIC.

How to choose a case fan

Size. Check which fan sizes your case and radiator mounts accept before anything else. The 120 mm size is the most common and has the most models in our range. A 140 mm fan can move a similar amount of air at a lower speed, which usually means less noise, while fans up to 92 mm are meant for small cases and tight spaces.

Airflow or static pressure. Fans tuned for airflow suit open case fronts, rear exhaust and roof mounts. Fans with higher static pressure cope better with radiators, dense dust filters and restrictive grilles. The product description normally states which way a fan is tuned.

Noise level. Compare the rated noise in dB(A) and the maximum speed in rpm, not just the airflow figure. A fan that reaches its target airflow at a lower speed is easier to live with, and a good bearing helps it stay quiet over the years.

Connector and speed control. A 4-pin fan can be regulated by the motherboard through PWM, and this is the connector most models with specifications in our range use. 3-pin fans are controlled by voltage and are also available. Some models list two connectors, so check the pins on the product page against the headers on your board or fan hub.

Colour and pack size. Black is the most common finish among listed models, and white versions are available for light-coloured builds. Fans are sold singly or in packs of three, and a pack is usually the easier way to fit a full set of intake and exhaust fans in one go.

Case fan brands we carry

  • LIAN LI: known for the UNI FAN series, whose fans connect side by side to cut down cable clutter.
  • Noctua: an Austrian brand known for very quiet fans in a recognisable brown and beige colour scheme.
  • Phanteks: a case maker that also sells fans, including high static pressure models for radiators.
  • NOISEBLOCKER: a German brand focused on low-noise fans.
  • ARCTIC: known for affordable fans with strong static pressure, such as the P series.
  • CORSAIR: known for RGB fans managed through its iCUE software.
  • be quiet: a German brand whose Silent Wings and Pure Wings lines are built around low noise.

Also in our range: JONSBO, MONTECH, ZALMAN, XILENCE and AKASA.

The 120 mm subcategory is the largest, the large fans section holds 140 mm models and bigger, and the small fans section covers sizes up to 92 mm.

Case fan FAQ

What size case fan do I need?

You need the size your case mounts support, and in most PC cases this is 120 mm or 140 mm. Look at the fan mounting holes or the specifications of your case. Many cases accept both sizes in the same position, so you can choose either.

How many case fans should a PC have?

Most PCs need at least one intake fan and one exhaust fan to keep air moving. A common setup is two intake fans at the front and one exhaust fan at the rear. Systems with a powerful graphics card or a lot of storage often benefit from extra fans at the top or bottom.

What is the difference between 3-pin and 4-pin case fans?

A 4-pin fan has a PWM control line, so the motherboard can adjust its speed smoothly, while a 3-pin fan is controlled by changing its voltage. A 4-pin fan will usually also work on a 3-pin header, but its speed control is then limited to voltage. Check which headers your motherboard has before you buy.

Are 140 mm fans better than 120 mm fans?

Not always, but a 140 mm fan can move the same air as a 120 mm one at a lower speed, which is often quieter. It needs a case with 140 mm mounts, though. For radiators and mesh panels, the static pressure of a specific model matters more than its size alone.
