Cooling pads

Cooling pads

Laptop cooling pads are stands and mats with built-in fans that sit under a notebook to move air across its underside and raise the keyboard to a more comfortable angle. They suit gamers, students and anyone who works for hours at a desk. Our range of over 50 models includes White Shark, Esperanza, SBOX and DeepCool.

How to choose a laptop cooling pad

Laptop size. Check the largest screen size the pad supports, given in inches. Many pads are made for laptops up to 15.6 inches, while larger gaming laptops may need a pad rated for 17 inches.

Fans and noise. Large, slower fans usually move air more quietly than several small, fast ones. Look at the number and diameter of the fans, and whether their speed can be adjusted. The fans should also line up with the intake vents on the underside of your laptop.

Angle and height. Adjustable height settings tilt the keyboard and bring the screen closer to eye level, which helps during long sessions. Fixed-angle pads are simpler but give you no room to fine-tune your typing position.

Power and ports. Most cooling pads draw power from a USB port on the laptop, so they use up one port. A model with a pass-through USB port or built-in hub gives that port back.

Portability. Thin, light pads with a folding stand fit into a laptop bag. Heavier metal-mesh pads with several fans are better kept on a desk.

Cooling pads: frequently asked questions

Do laptop cooling pads really work?

Yes, a cooling pad can lower temperatures a little under heavy load, but the result depends on the laptop and the pad. They help most with laptops that draw air in through the underside. They will not fix clogged vents or old thermal paste.

What size cooling pad do I need?

Choose a pad rated for your laptop's screen size or larger. A pad listed for 15.6 inches can often hold a smaller laptop, though the fans may not sit under the vents. Check where your laptop's intake vents are before buying.

Does a cooling pad need its own power supply?

Most cooling pads do not need a separate adapter. They usually run from a USB cable connected to the laptop. This uses one USB port, unless the pad has a pass-through port.

Are cooling pads noisy?

Noise depends mainly on the fans. Larger fans running at lower speeds tend to be quieter than small fans spinning fast. A pad with speed control lets you turn the fans down for office work and up for gaming.
