Laptop screens 15.6 inch are replacement display panels for laptops with a 15.6 inch screen, bought by people repairing a cracked, dim or striped display. They suit home users, repair technicians and IT departments. Panels differ by connector, resolution, panel type and refresh rate, so an exact match to your laptop matters more than the size alone.
How to choose a 15.6 inch laptop screen
Connector and pin count. Look at the cable socket on the back of your current panel. Most slim, modern 15.6 inch laptops use a 30-pin eDP connector, while older and thicker models often use a 40-pin LVDS connector. A panel with the wrong connector will not plug in, even if the size is identical.
Resolution. Most 15.6 inch laptops use either HD (1366x768) or Full HD (1920x1080). Buy the same resolution as the original panel, because the laptop's cable and graphics settings are set up for it and a different one may give no picture or a distorted image.
Panel type and finish. IPS panels generally offer wider viewing angles and better colour than TN panels, which are more common in budget laptops. Matte finishes reduce reflections in bright rooms, while glossy ones look richer but reflect more. If your laptop has a touchscreen, you need a touch-enabled replacement, as a standard panel will not provide touch input.
Refresh rate. Most laptops use 60 Hz panels. Some gaming laptops use 120 Hz, 144 Hz or higher, and these need a panel with the same refresh rate and a compatible connector to work properly.
Mounting and thickness. Older panels often have metal brackets with screw holes on the sides, while many slim panels have no brackets and sit directly in the lid frame. Check which type your laptop uses before ordering.
Brands and how to match a screen
- Laptop model number: found on the label under the laptop or in the system settings, and the best starting point for finding a compatible panel.
- Panel part number: printed on a sticker on the back of the existing screen, and the most reliable way to confirm an exact match.
- Connector and resolution: two details that must agree with the original, whichever company made the panel.
Laptop screens are usually chosen by compatibility with the laptop model rather than by brand, so the part number tells you more than the name on the box.
Frequently asked questions about 15.6 inch laptop screens
How do I know which 15.6 inch screen fits my laptop?
Find the part number on the sticker on the back of your current panel, or search using your laptop's exact model number. Then confirm that the connector, resolution and refresh rate match. Size alone is not enough to guarantee a fit.
Is every 15.6 inch laptop screen the same?
No. Two panels of the same diagonal size can differ in connector type, pin count, resolution, thickness, refresh rate and mounting points. A panel that fits one 15.6 inch laptop may not plug into another.
Can I replace a laptop screen myself?
Yes, many people do, provided they are comfortable removing the bezel and handling the thin display cable. Switch the laptop off, disconnect the battery if possible, and take care not to bend the panel. If the laptop is under warranty or the damage goes beyond the screen, a technician is the safer option.
Can I upgrade from an HD to a Full HD screen?
Sometimes, but it is not guaranteed. The new panel needs the same connector and size, and the laptop's graphics hardware and cable must support the higher resolution. Check the laptop's specifications or ask a technician before buying.
