How to choose an analog HDCVI camera
Resolution. Our range includes 1920 x 1080 pixels (2 MP), 2880 x 1620 pixels (5 MP) and a 3840 x 2160 pixels (4K) model. Full HD is enough for watching a doorway or a till point, while 5 MP or 4K gives more detail for reading number plates or covering a wide yard. Higher resolution also needs a recorder that can handle it.
Form factor. Turret cameras are the most common in our range, followed by dome and bullet models. Domes are harder to tamper with and the lens direction is less obvious, whereas bullets are easy to aim and their shape clearly signals that the area is watched. Housings are plastic, metal or a mix of both, so choose metal where the camera could be knocked or exposed to the weather, and check the IP rating on the product page for outdoor use.
Night performance. Night vision distance in our range runs from 25 m to 80 m, so match it to the real distance you need to cover rather than choosing the highest figure. Minimum illumination values go down to 0.0001 lx, and a lower number means the camera can produce a usable colour image in dimmer light. A lower aperture number, such as f/1.6, lets in more light than f/2.0.
Recorder and cabling. An HDCVI camera needs a compatible recorder, and the existing coaxial cable can often be reused. Check the video formats the recorder accepts before buying, because not every analogue recorder supports HDCVI. Most cameras of this type are powered separately, so plan for a power supply at each camera position unless the model states otherwise.
Frame rate and mounting. Most models in our range record at 25 or 30 fps, which gives smooth movement, and a few are limited to 15 fps. Tilt ranges such as 0 to 78° or 0 to 90° show how far the camera head can be adjusted, which matters for ceiling and high wall mounting.
