How to choose a subwoofer
Active or passive. An active subwoofer has its own built-in amplifier and plugs into the mains, so it connects straight to an AV receiver, soundbar or mixer. A passive one needs a separate external amplifier, which suits installations where amplification is already planned. Both types are in our range.
Driver size. A larger driver generally moves more air and reaches lower, while a smaller one is easier to place and tends to sound tighter in small rooms. Our range includes models with 16 cm and 30 cm drivers, so you can match the size to the space rather than simply buying the biggest.
RMS power. RMS power shows what the subwoofer can deliver continuously, which is more useful than peak figures. Models in our range list 150 W and 200 W RMS, a sensible level for living rooms and small studios. Larger halls or live events call for professional systems with far more output.
Room and use. A subwoofer for films and music at home should blend with your front speakers, so check for a level control and a crossover setting. For stage or installation work, look at professional cabinets designed to be paired with full-range PA speakers.
Power and connections. Active models need a mains supply, and some list standby consumption of around 1 W, which matters if the unit stays plugged in. Check that your amplifier or soundbar has a subwoofer output, or that the subwoofer accepts speaker-level inputs.

Should I buy an active or passive subwoofer?
