How to choose a speaker or soundbar mount
Mount type. A soundbar bracket holds a long, flat unit under or above a TV, while a speaker mount carries a single bookshelf or satellite speaker. Some soundbar brackets clamp onto a TV wall mount instead of the wall, which saves drilling a second set of holes.
Weight and size. Check the weight of your speaker or soundbar against the load rating of the mount, and leave a safety margin. Also compare the length of the soundbar with the width of the bracket, because a bracket that is too short will not support the unit evenly.
Wall type and fixings. Brick and concrete take standard plugs and screws well, but plasterboard usually needs dedicated fixings or a stud. Supplied hardware is often general purpose, so check that it matches your wall before you start drilling.
Fixing points and adjustment. Many soundbars have keyhole slots or threaded inserts on the back, and the bracket must line up with them. For speakers, tilt and swivel let you aim the sound at the seating area, and some mounts also give you room to route cables behind the unit.
Position relative to the TV. A soundbar placed too close to the screen can block the TV remote sensor, and one set too far away looks detached. Measure the gap before you fix anything to the wall, and leave space for connectors at the back.

Frequently asked questions about speaker and soundbar mounts
How do I mount a soundbar below a wall-mounted TV?
Fix a soundbar bracket to the wall directly under the TV, or attach a compatible bracket to the TV mount itself. Measure the gap between the bottom of the screen and the top of the soundbar first. Use a spirit level so the soundbar sits straight along its full length.
Can a soundbar be mounted on plasterboard?
Yes, but only with fixings rated for plasterboard, or by screwing into a stud behind it. Standard wall plugs for brick will not hold securely in a hollow wall. If you are unsure what is behind the surface, use a stud detector before drilling.
Do I need a bracket made for my exact soundbar?
Not always. Many brackets are universal and fit a range of soundbars, but you should still check that the fixing points on the back of your unit match the bracket. Soundbar makers sometimes supply their own wall brackets in the box, so look there first.
How do I know if a mount will hold my speaker?
Compare the weight of the speaker with the maximum load stated for the mount. Choose a mount rated comfortably above that weight, because vibration from louder playback adds stress over time. Check the size of the mounting plate too, so the speaker base sits fully supported.
