Presenters

Presenters

Presenters are wireless remote controls for slideshows, used by teachers, trainers and anyone who speaks in meeting rooms or lecture halls. Our range of over 40 models covers laser pointer presenters and slide remotes with USB receivers, from brands such as Logitech, Renkforce, Hama and Verbatim.

How to choose a presenter

Connection and compatibility. Most presenters connect through a small USB receiver that plugs into the laptop, and some also offer Bluetooth. A receiver works with almost any computer that has a free USB-A port, while Bluetooth saves the port on thin laptops. If your laptop only has USB-C, check whether an adapter is needed. Most presenters work like a keyboard, so they run on Windows, macOS and Linux without installing anything.

Range. Typical presenters work from about 10 to 30 metres, and that is more than a classroom or boardroom needs. Larger lecture halls and event spaces benefit from the longer range, but also check that the receiver has a clear line of sight to the device. Stated range is measured in ideal conditions, so allow some margin.

Pointer type. A red laser is the standard and is fine in most meeting rooms. A green laser is easier to see in bright rooms or at a distance, though it usually costs more. Some modern presenters replace the laser with an on-screen highlight or magnifier, which also shows up on a video call or a recorded session. Check the pointer type before buying if you present over video.

Buttons and extras. Every presenter has next and previous slide buttons. Others add a blank-screen button, a volume control, a mouse function or a vibrating timer that warns you when your time is nearly up. Choose only what you will use, because a simple remote with large, clearly separated buttons is easier to operate without looking down.

Power source. Many presenters run on AAA or button batteries, which are easy to replace before an event. Rechargeable models charge over USB and save on batteries, but need charging before a long day of talks. A presenter with an automatic sleep function will make the battery last longer.

Presenter brands we carry

Presenter FAQ

What is a presenter used for?

A presenter is a handheld wireless remote that changes slides on your computer from a distance. It lets you walk around the room instead of standing at the laptop. Many models also include a laser pointer to draw attention to part of the screen.

Do I need to install software to use a presenter?

Usually not. Most presenters connect through a USB receiver and are recognised as a keyboard, so they work as soon as they are plugged in. Extra software is mainly needed for advanced features such as customised buttons or on-screen highlighting.

Is a red or green laser pointer better?

A green laser is easier to see, especially in bright rooms or from far away, while a red laser is adequate for most meeting rooms. Green lasers tend to be more expensive. If you often present in large or well-lit spaces, green is the safer option.

What range do I need from a presenter?

For most meeting rooms and classrooms, a range of about 10 metres is enough. Large halls call for a presenter rated at 20 metres or more. Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz receiver models both reach these distances when there is a clear line between the presenter and the receiver.
