How to choose an angled or flat HDMI cable
Cable shape and bend direction. Work out where the cable has to go before you buy. An angled connector points up, down, left or right depending on the model, so check which way it bends against the port position on your TV, monitor or laptop. A flat cable suits runs along skirting boards, under rugs or behind a wall-mounted screen.
HDMI version. The version decides which resolution and refresh rate the cable can carry. Version 1.4 handles Full HD and 4K at 30 Hz, while version 2.0 is needed for 4K at 60 Hz and HDR. Both 1.4 and 2.0 cables appear in our range. For 4K gaming at higher refresh rates, look for a cable specified for HDMI 2.1.
Length. Most cables here are between 1 m and 2 m, with shorter 0.5 m and longer 3 m and 5 m options also available. Buy the length you need with a little slack, because a cable stretched tight puts strain on the connector. Very long passive cables can lose signal quality at 4K, so keep the run as short as practical.
Connector at the other end. Most cables in our range have a standard HDMI Type A connector at both ends, which fits TVs, monitors, consoles and most laptops. A smaller number use HDMI Type D (micro) on one end, found on some tablets, cameras and compact devices. Check the port on the source device before ordering.

Do I need HDMI 2.0 for 4K?
You need HDMI 2.0 for 4K at 60 Hz, which is the standard for smooth 4K video and most 4K HDR content. An HDMI 1.4 cable carries 4K only at 30 Hz, which is fine for static content but can look choppy for video and games. If your TV and source both support 4K at 60 Hz, choose a cable specified for version 2.0.
Are flat HDMI cables as good as round ones?
A flat HDMI cable carries the same signal as a round one when it meets the same HDMI specification. The main advantage is that it lies flat and is easier to route along walls or under carpets. Check the stated HDMI version, as the shape does not affect which resolutions are supported.
How long can an HDMI cable be?
There is no single maximum, but passive HDMI cables work reliably over a few metres at 4K and can go longer at lower resolutions.
