4K and 5K monitors

4K and 5K monitors

4K and 5K monitors are sharp desktop displays for office work, photo and video editing, programming and home entertainment. Our range is mostly 4K, with a few 5K and 6K models, from brands such as Dell, HP, Samsung, LG and BenQ. Sizes start at 27 inches, and panels are mainly IPS, IPS Black and VA.

How to choose a 4K or 5K monitor

Screen size. A 27 inch screen is the most common size in our range and suits a normal desk viewing distance. At 31.5 or 32 inches you get more room for side-by-side windows, while 42.5 to 55 inch models behave more like small TVs and need a deep desk or wall mount.

Resolution. Most models here are 4K (3840 x 2160), which is enough for crisp text and detailed images. A handful go further to 5K (5120 x 2880) or 6K, which suit designers and Mac users who want finer detail, but they also demand a more capable graphics output.

Panel type. IPS panels dominate our range and give consistent colour from wide viewing angles, which matters for editing and shared screens. IPS Black improves contrast over standard IPS, and VA panels give deeper blacks for films and general use, though viewing angles are usually narrower.

Refresh rate and response time. Most 4K monitors in our range run at 60 Hz, which is fine for documents, browsing and video. If you game, look at the smaller group offering 120 Hz or more, and remember your graphics card must be able to drive 4K at those speeds.

Connections. Many models have one or two HDMI ports, and a few have three. Check also for DisplayPort and USB-C, since a single USB-C cable can carry video and charge a laptop on monitors that support it.

4K and 5K monitor FAQ

Is a 4K monitor worth it for office work?

Yes, if you spend long hours with text, spreadsheets or several windows open. A 4K screen renders text more sharply than a Full HD one and gives you room to work. The benefit is greatest on 27 inch screens and larger.

What size 4K monitor should I buy?

A 27 inch monitor suits most desks, while 31.5 or 32 inches suits those who want more workspace and sit slightly further back. On a 27 inch 4K screen you will usually use display scaling to keep text readable. Larger screens above 40 inches are better for shared viewing or multitasking from a distance.

What is the difference between 4K and 5K?

A 5K monitor has a resolution of 5120 x 2880, around 1.8 times as many pixels as 4K at 3840 x 2160. The result is finer detail at the same screen size, which helps with photo, video and design work. It also needs a computer and cable that can handle the higher resolution.

Do I need a high refresh rate on a 4K monitor?

Not for office work, editing or watching video, where 60 Hz is enough. A higher refresh rate such as 120 Hz or more mainly benefits gaming and fast motion. Your graphics card also has to be able to deliver those frame rates at 4K.
