Screen cleaners

Screen cleaners for monitors, laptops, TVs and other displays, for anyone who wants fingerprints, dust and smears gone without scratching the panel. The range is small and focused, with products from IT Dusters, Paladone and iFixit. It suits home offices, workstations and shared desks where screens get touched and dusty.

How to choose a screen cleaner

Screen coating. Many monitors have an anti-glare or other coating that harsh chemicals can damage. Look for a cleaner described as safe for LCD, LED or coated screens, and avoid anything containing ammonia or strong alcohol unless your monitor manual allows it.

Format. Sprays and gels deal with greasy fingerprints, pre-moistened wipes are quick for a desk drawer, and a dry cloth is enough for light dust. A spray with a separate cloth gives you the most control, because you apply the liquid to the cloth and never to the screen.

Cloth material. A soft, lint-free microfibre cloth lifts oil without leaving fibres behind. Check whether the cloth is washable, since a dirty cloth drags grit across the panel and can cause fine scratches.

What else you want to clean. If you also look after keyboards, phones or laptops, a kit with several tools or a dust remover saves buying separate products. Dust in vents and between keys needs a different approach from smears on glass, so match the product to the job.

Screen cleaner brands we carry

  • IT Dusters: known for cleaning products aimed at IT equipment, including compressed air dusters, and the brand with the most products in this category.
  • Paladone: a maker of licensed gaming and pop-culture gadgets and gifts, so its cleaning accessories tend to suit a gaming desk.
  • iFixit: best known for repair guides and precision tool kits for electronics, which makes its cleaning products a natural fit for people who open up their devices.

Screen cleaner FAQ

What is the best way to clean a monitor screen?

Switch the monitor off, then wipe it gently with a dry microfibre cloth to remove dust. For stubborn marks, lightly dampen the cloth with a cleaner made for screens and wipe in light, even strokes. Never spray liquid directly onto the panel, as it can run into the edges.

Can I use household glass cleaner on a monitor?

No, household glass cleaner is not recommended for monitors. Many contain ammonia or strong alcohol, which can damage anti-glare and other coatings and leave the screen cloudy. A cleaner made for electronic displays or a cloth with plain water is the safer option.

How often should I clean my screen?

A quick dry wipe once a week keeps dust under control for most users. Clean with a screen cleaner only when you can see fingerprints or smears, because frequent wet cleaning adds little and wears the coating over time. Touchscreens and shared screens may need attention more often.

Do screen cleaners work on laptops, TVs and phones?

Most screen cleaners work on laptops, TVs and phones, provided the label says they are safe for those surfaces. Check the instructions first, particularly for phones and touchscreens, which often have a thin oil-repellent coating. Use a soft cloth and a small amount of liquid on every device.
