Antennas and accessories

Antennas and accessories

Antennas and accessories for routers: external Wi-Fi and cellular antennas plus the add-ons used to fit them, for home users, small businesses and network installers. Our range of over 30 models includes Teltonika, MikroTik, Ubiquiti and ALLNET.

Shoppers here are usually replacing a stock antenna, improving mobile signal or extending coverage outdoors.

How to choose router antennas and accessories

Compatibility with your router. Check the router manufacturer and model first. Antennas from the same brand are designed around that hardware, which matters most for cellular routers, where the number of antenna ports and the supported bands vary between models.

Connector type. Common connectors are SMA, RP-SMA and N-type, and they are not interchangeable. Look at the ports on your router, or its manual, and match the connector and its gender exactly. Adapters and pigtail cables exist, but each extra joint adds some signal loss.

Frequency band and gain. The antenna must cover the bands you actually use: 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz for Wi-Fi, or the 4G and 5G cellular bands for mobile routers. Gain is measured in dBi. A higher figure concentrates the signal in a narrower area, so it helps at distance but can leave dead spots close by.

Omnidirectional or directional. An omnidirectional antenna spreads the signal around it and suits general indoor coverage. A directional antenna points at one target, such as a distant mast or a building across a yard. It reaches further in that direction but needs careful aiming.

Indoor or outdoor use and cable length. Outdoor installations need weather-resistant housings and a secure mounting. A long cable lets you place the antenna near a window or on a pole, but loss rises with length, so use the shortest run that gets the antenna into a good position.

Brands in our antennas and accessories range

  • Teltonika: the largest group in this category, from a Lithuanian maker known for industrial cellular routers and gateways, so its antennas are matched to those devices.
  • MikroTik: a Latvian manufacturer whose routers run RouterOS, with antennas and accessories that fit its wireless and LTE equipment.
  • Ubiquiti: known for UniFi networking and airMAX point-to-point wireless links, where antenna choice and alignment decide link quality.
  • Cisco: a long-standing enterprise networking vendor whose Wi-Fi access points often use external antennas.
  • HP Enterprise: the company behind Aruba wireless networking, with accessories aimed at business Wi-Fi deployments.
  • Cambium Networks: focused on fixed wireless broadband and managed Wi-Fi, where antennas are part of the link design.

Also in our range: ALLNET, TP-Link and Milesight.

Frequently asked questions about router antennas

Do I need an external antenna for my router?

Not always. Many routers work well with their built-in or supplied antennas in a small home. An external antenna helps when the router sits in a poor position, when mobile signal is weak, or when you need to cover an outbuilding or outdoor area.

Does a higher dBi antenna always give a better signal?

No. Higher gain focuses the signal into a flatter or narrower pattern rather than creating more of it. That can extend range in one direction, but it may weaken coverage above, below or close to the antenna.

How do I know which antenna connector I need?

Check the ports on your router and match them by type: SMA, RP-SMA or N-type, and by male or female pin arrangement. The router manual or the manufacturer's specification sheet normally lists the connector. If the ends differ, an adapter or a short pigtail cable can bridge them, at the cost of a little signal.

Can I use an antenna from a different brand?

Often yes, provided the connector, the frequency band and the number of antenna ports match. Brand matching is not strictly required. For cellular routers it is still safer to choose an antenna made for that router family, because the supported bands are specific to each model.
