How to choose a rugged tablet
Protection rating. Check the IP code first. IP65 and IP66 cover dust and water jets, which suits rain and hosing down, while IP68 also covers submersion under conditions set by the manufacturer. Both are found in our range, and IP68 is the most common among the models that list a rating.
Screen size. An 8-inch tablet fits a jacket pocket or a vehicle mount and is easy to use one-handed. A 10.1-inch model gives more room for forms, maps and drawings, and a 12-inch screen suits work at a desk or dock. Most models listed here use a 1920 x 1200 pixel (WUXGA) display, which is sharp enough for text and checklists.
Processor, memory and storage. Our range includes Qualcomm, Intel and Samsung processors, with 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB of storage. For a single business app, scanning or navigation, 6 GB and 64 GB is usually enough. Choose 8 GB and 128 GB if you run several apps at once, store offline maps or keep many photos.
Battery and work features. Look at how long a shift lasts, and whether the battery can be swapped without tools, as on some rugged models. Also consider glove-friendly touchscreens, a built-in barcode scanner, docking options and camera quality. Rear cameras in our range are 12, 13 or 16 MP, which is adequate for documenting damage or reading labels.

What is a rugged tablet and how does it differ from a tablet in a case?
A rugged tablet is designed from the start to survive dust, water, drops and temperature extremes, with sealed ports and a reinforced body. A normal tablet in a protective case resists knocks but is rarely sealed against water and dust. Rugged models also tend to offer glove-friendly screens, brighter displays and work accessories.
What does IP68 mean on a tablet?
IP68 means the tablet is fully dust-tight and can be submerged in water under conditions defined by the manufacturer. IP65 and IP66 are also dust-tight but only protected against water jets, not immersion. Check the manufacturer's stated depth and duration before using a tablet in or near water.
Which screen size should I choose?
Choose 8 inches for portability and one-handed use, 10.1 inches for a balance of readability and size, and 12 inches for detailed drawings or desk work. Our range covers all three sizes, with 10.1 inches the most common. Think about where the tablet will be carried or mounted before deciding.
How much memory and storage do I need?
