Windows tablets

Windows tablets

Windows tablets are touchscreen devices that run full Windows rather than a mobile operating system, so they suit people who want desktop software such as Microsoft Office, accounting packages or specialist business tools on a slate. Our range of over 60 models is made up mostly of Microsoft tablets, plus a rugged model from Getac for demanding work.

How to choose a Windows tablet

Processor and memory. Tablets with Intel Core processors run traditional Windows programs without fuss, while ARM-based models can struggle with older software. For office work and web browsing, 8 GB of RAM is a sensible starting point, and 16 GB gives more room if you keep many applications open.

Storage. Windows and its updates take up a good share of the drive, so 128 GB fills up quickly. Choose 256 GB or more if you store large files, photos or offline projects, and check whether the tablet accepts a memory card or external drive.

Screen size and portability. Screens of around 10 to 11 inches are easier to carry and use on the move. Models of 12 to 13 inches give more space for spreadsheets, documents and two windows side by side, but they are heavier in a bag.

Keyboard and pen. Many Windows tablets are detachable 2-in-1 devices, and the keyboard cover and stylus are often sold separately. If you type a lot or take handwritten notes, count these accessories into your plan from the start.

Durability and connectivity. For site visits, warehouses or work outdoors, a rugged tablet that tolerates drops, dust and water is a better fit than a standard slate. If you work away from Wi-Fi, check whether the model offers a mobile data connection.

Windows tablet brands in our range

  • Microsoft: the company behind Windows also builds its own Surface tablets, which are designed around detachable keyboards and pen input and account for most of the models in our range.
  • Getac: a specialist in rugged computers, known for tablets built for field work, where resistance to shocks, dust and moisture matters more than slim design.

Windows tablets: frequently asked questions

What is a Windows tablet?

A Windows tablet is a touchscreen tablet that runs the full Windows operating system. It can install the same programs as a laptop, from Microsoft Office to specialist business software. Most can also be used with a keyboard and mouse.

Can a Windows tablet replace a laptop?

For many people it can, provided the tablet has enough memory and storage for daily work. A model with a detachable keyboard handles typing, video calls and office documents well. Heavy tasks such as video editing or 3D design are usually better suited to a laptop or desktop with a more capable processor.

Is a Windows tablet better than an iPad or Android tablet for work?

It is better if your work depends on desktop Windows programs, since an iPad or Android tablet uses mobile apps instead. Windows tablets also manage files, external drives and printers in the same way as a PC. Mobile tablets can be simpler and lighter for reading, media and casual use.

Do I need to buy a keyboard separately?

Often yes. Many Windows tablets are sold as the tablet alone, with the keyboard cover and stylus as optional extras. Check the product description before you order, so you know exactly what is in the box.
