UPS batteries

UPS batteries

UPS batteries are replacement batteries and battery packs for uninterruptible power supplies, suited to home offices, small businesses and server rooms where a UPS no longer holds its charge. Our range includes model-specific cartridges and individual sealed batteries from APC, Eaton, Green Cell and CyberPower, among others.

How to choose a UPS battery

Match the UPS model. Start with the make and model printed on the UPS, then look for a battery listed as compatible with it. APC, for example, numbers its replacement cartridges (RBC) by UPS family, so the number tells you exactly which units it fits.

Check voltage and capacity. The voltage must be identical to the original, and most small UPS units use 12 V blocks. Capacity in ampere-hours (Ah) should match the old battery. A higher Ah rating than the original may not fit the case, so check the dimensions first.

Choose between cartridge and single battery. A cartridge is a pre-wired pack that slides in with little effort, which suits anyone who does not want to handle wiring. Individual batteries cost less per unit but need correct connection, and in a multi-battery UPS you should replace all of them together.

Check size and terminals. Two batteries with the same voltage and capacity can still differ in case size and terminal type (F1 or F2 tabs, for instance). Compare these with your old battery before you order.

Think about age and runtime. Sealed lead-acid batteries in a UPS generally last a few years, and heat shortens that. If your UPS shows a battery warning or the runtime has dropped sharply, replacement is usually due. Larger systems in our range use bigger battery packs and extension modules to extend runtime.

UPS battery brands we carry

  • APC (including APC by Schneider Electric): the largest group in our range, known for numbered replacement battery cartridges that match its own Back-UPS and Smart-UPS models.
  • Eaton (including Eaton Powerware): a UPS maker whose batteries are made for its own units, and Powerware is the line Eaton took over, so older Powerware UPS models are covered.
  • Green Cell: a Polish brand known for compatible replacement batteries, which suits owners who want an alternative to the original maker's part.
  • CyberPower: a UPS manufacturer that sells replacement battery packs designed for its own models.
  • Duracell: best known for consumer batteries, and also present here with sealed batteries for UPS use.

Also in our range: EMU, T6 Power, 2-Power and BlueWalker.

UPS battery FAQ

How often should a UPS battery be replaced?

Most sealed lead-acid UPS batteries need replacing every three to five years. Heat, frequent power cuts and a UPS that is always fully loaded all shorten that period. Many UPS units show a battery warning when a replacement is due.

Can I use any 12 V battery in my UPS?

No, voltage is only one of the requirements. The capacity in Ah, the physical size and the terminal type must also suit your UPS. The safest approach is to buy a battery listed as compatible with your exact model.

What is the difference between a battery cartridge and a single battery?

A cartridge is a ready-made pack of one or more batteries, already wired and often fitted with the connector your UPS expects. A single battery is just the cell block, so you connect it yourself. Cartridges are simpler to fit, while single batteries give more flexibility.

How do I know if my UPS battery is failing?

A failing battery usually shows as a warning light or alarm, a much shorter runtime, or a UPS that shuts down during a brief power cut. A swollen case is a clear sign to replace it immediately. Running a self-test from the UPS software or front panel can confirm the problem.
