How to choose a vacuum cleaner filter
Match the exact model. Filters are shaped for specific vacuums, so a brand name alone is not enough. Check the model number on the vacuum or in its manual and compare it with the compatibility listed on the product page. Check the vacuum type. Stick vacuums make up the largest group in our range, followed by handheld, cylinder and robot models, with a smaller number for upright vacuums. A robot vacuum filter is usually a small flat pad, while a cylinder or upright filter is often a larger foam or pleated cartridge, so do not assume they are interchangeable.
Know the filter stage. Many vacuums use more than one stage: a pre-filter or foam sponge that catches coarse dust, and a finer main filter, often HEPA, that traps small particles. If you have allergies, look for the finer stage and replace it on schedule rather than only rinsing the pre-filter.

How often should I replace a vacuum cleaner filter?
It depends on the model and how much you use it, but many filters need replacing every few months to once a year. Homes with pets or heavy carpet use may need to replace them sooner. The manual for your vacuum gives the manufacturer's interval.
Can I wash a vacuum cleaner filter?
Only if the manufacturer says it is washable. Rinse it under cold water without detergent, then leave it to dry completely, usually for at least 24 hours, before refitting. A damp filter can cause odours and damage the motor.
Will a filter from another brand fit my vacuum?
Usually not. Filters are made to fit a specific vacuum model, and a different size or shape can let dust bypass the filter. Always compare your model number with the compatibility on the product page.
How do I know the filter needs replacing?
Weaker suction is the most common sign. Others include a dusty smell from the exhaust, dust escaping from the vacuum, or the motor overheating and cutting out. If a clean bin and unblocked hose do not help, check the filter next.
