Trackers

Trackers

Trackers are small location devices that attach to keys, bags, luggage or other items you do not want to lose, and they suit anyone who regularly misplaces things or travels with valuables. Our range is a small, focused selection from Apple, HYPER and MediaRange.

Check which phone you use before choosing, because most trackers work fully with only one ecosystem.

How to choose a tracker

Phone compatibility. This is the first thing to settle. Trackers built around Apple's Find My network need an iPhone, while others rely on Google's Find My Device network or on their own app. A tracker paired with the wrong phone may lose its most useful features, such as precise direction finding.

How it locates the item. Nearly all trackers use Bluetooth to connect to your phone when you are close. Away from home, they depend on other phones in the same network passing on the location. This works well in busy places such as cities, airports and shopping centres, and less well in remote areas. Some models also add ultra-wideband for exact direction when you are nearby.

Battery type and life. Many trackers use a replaceable coin cell battery that lasts around a year with normal use, so you only need a spare cell. Others have a built-in rechargeable battery, which saves buying cells but means you must remember to charge it. Think about whether the tracker will sit in a bag for months, where a long-life replaceable battery is easier to live with.

Size, attachment and durability. A tracker on a keyring needs a hole or a case to hang from. One going into a wallet or passport holder should be thin, and one for luggage or outdoor kit should resist water and dust. Check the ingress protection rating if the item will get wet.

Alerts and sound. A built-in speaker lets you ring the tracker when it is hidden under a sofa cushion or in a coat pocket. Separation alerts warn you when you walk away from an item, which helps with laptop bags and travel gear.

Trackers brands we carry

  • Apple: known for the AirTag and the Find My network, which uses the huge number of Apple devices in circulation to help locate lost items, and which works with iPhone.
  • HYPER: a brand best known for USB-C hubs, chargers and other accessories for Apple devices, so it is a natural fit for shoppers who already use Apple products.
  • MediaRange: a German-founded brand known for storage media and low-cost computer accessories.

The category is small, so each brand is represented by a single product. Compare their compatibility details carefully before ordering.

Tracker FAQ

What is a tracker used for?

A tracker helps you find everyday items such as keys, wallets, bags and luggage. You attach it to the item, then use a phone app to see its last known location or make it play a sound. It does not replace insurance or a security system, but it can save a lot of searching.

Do trackers work with both iPhone and Android?

Most do not work equally well with both. Trackers designed for Apple's Find My network need an iPhone, and those built for Google's network are designed for Android. Always check the stated compatibility before buying.

How long does a tracker battery last?

Many trackers with replaceable coin cell batteries last around a year, though this depends on how often the tracker sounds an alert and how often it connects. Rechargeable models usually need charging every few weeks or months. The product specification will give the manufacturer's estimate.

Is a Bluetooth tracker the same as a GPS tracker?

No. A Bluetooth tracker has no GPS of its own and finds its location through nearby phones, so it only reports a position when other devices are close enough to detect it. A true GPS tracker has its own positioning chip and usually a mobile data connection, which makes it larger and often more expensive to run. For keys, bags and luggage, a Bluetooth tracker is normally enough.
