Garden sprayers are used to apply liquid feed, pest treatments, weedkiller and plain water to lawns, beds, hedges and vegetable patches. This category suits home gardeners and allotment growers, with sprayers from GARDENA and RYOBI.
The range is small, so it is easy to compare model by model.
How to choose a garden sprayer
Power source. Most garden sprayers are either hand-pumped pressure sprayers or battery-powered. A pump sprayer is simple and works well for occasional jobs on a small garden. A battery model removes the repeated pumping, which makes a real difference if you spray often or cover a larger area.
Tank capacity. A tank of a litre or two is easy to handle for spot treatments and pot plants. Larger tanks of five litres or more cover borders, hedges and lawns with fewer refills, but a full tank is heavy to carry, so think about how far you will walk with it.
What you will spray. Water and liquid fertiliser are undemanding, while weedkillers and pesticides call for a sprayer whose seals and tank are made for those products. Check the manufacturer's guidance before using anything other than water-based liquids. It is also sensible to keep one sprayer for weedkiller and another for feed.
Nozzle and spray pattern. An adjustable nozzle lets you switch between a fine mist for delicate leaves and a more direct jet for reaching higher growth or tight corners. A longer lance helps you reach the base of hedges and the far side of beds without stepping on the soil.
Comfort and cleaning. Look for a carry strap or a handle that sits well in your hand, and a wide tank opening that is easy to fill and rinse. Rinsing after every use stops residue from clogging the nozzle.
Garden sprayer brands we carry
- GARDENA: a German garden specialist best known for watering equipment and its quick-connect system of hose fittings, so its sprayers sit naturally alongside hoses, reels and other watering accessories. It makes up most of our range in this category.
- RYOBI: known for its ONE+ 18V cordless platform, where one battery and charger work across many garden and workshop tools. That is useful if you already own RYOBI batteries.
Garden sprayer FAQ
What size garden sprayer do I need?
For a small garden, patio or greenhouse, a tank of one to two litres is usually enough. For larger lawns, long hedges or a vegetable plot, a tank of five litres or more saves time on refilling. Remember that a full tank weighs about a kilogram per litre, so a bigger tank is heavier to carry.
Is a battery sprayer better than a manual pump sprayer?
A battery sprayer is better for frequent or larger jobs, because it holds steady pressure without pumping. A manual pump sprayer is better for occasional use, as it is simpler, lighter and has no battery to charge. The right choice depends on how often you spray and how big your garden is.
Can I use the same sprayer for weedkiller and fertiliser?
It is best not to. Traces of weedkiller left in the tank, hose or nozzle can damage plants you later feed or water, even after rinsing. Keeping one sprayer for weedkiller and another for feed and water is the safer approach, and it is worth labelling them clearly.
How do I clean a garden sprayer after use?
Empty any leftover liquid according to the product instructions, then fill the tank with clean water and spray it through the nozzle until it runs clear. Leave the tank open to dry before storing it. This keeps the nozzle from blocking and helps the seals last longer.
