Industrial and POS tablets

Industrial and POS tablets

Industrial and POS tablets are touchscreen devices built for shops, restaurants, warehouses and production areas, where a consumer tablet would struggle with dust, knocks or long working days. The range of over 10 models comes from ALLNET, so the choice comes down to specification and use rather than brand.

How to choose an industrial or POS tablet

Operating system. Check that your till, stock-control or machine software runs on the tablet's system, which is usually Android or Windows. Software compatibility matters more than raw speed, so confirm it with your software supplier before ordering.

Protection and durability. Look at the IP rating for dust and water resistance, and at shock resistance if the device will be carried or dropped. A fixed counter unit in a dry shop needs less protection than a handheld used in a cold store or workshop.

Screen size and mounting. Screens of around 8 to 10 inches suit handheld use, while larger panels suit fixed POS stations. If the tablet will sit on a wall, arm or machine, check for VESA mounting holes or a suitable bracket.

Connections and power. List your peripherals first: barcode scanners, receipt printers, card readers and cash drawers. Then match them to the ports, such as Ethernet, USB or serial, rather than relying on adapters. Power over Ethernet can reduce an installation to a single cable.

Battery and runtime. A handheld tablet should last a full shift between charges. A fixed unit that stays on mains power can put the budget into ports and protection instead.

Brands we carry

  • ALLNET: a German company known for networking and IoT products, which is why its tablets suit installations that connect to wired networks and other business hardware.

Every model in this category is supplied by ALLNET, so comparisons come down to screen size, ports, operating system and protection level.

Industrial and POS tablets: frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an industrial tablet and a normal tablet?

An industrial tablet is built to survive conditions that damage a consumer tablet. It usually has a tougher housing, better protection against dust and moisture, and business-oriented connections such as Ethernet or serial ports. It is also designed for longer daily use.

Which tablet do I need for a point of sale system?

Choose a tablet that runs your POS software and has the ports for your peripherals. A screen of around 10 inches or larger is common for counter use, and a stand or wall mount keeps it stable. Ask your POS software provider which operating systems they support.

Does the IP rating matter on a POS tablet?

It matters if the tablet will meet liquids, dust or frequent cleaning. A rating such as IP65 means the housing is dust-tight and protected against water jets. In a dry office or boutique, a lower rating may be enough.

Can an industrial tablet be mounted on a wall or machine?

Many can, but only if the tablet has mounting points or a compatible bracket. Look for VESA holes on the back, and check the weight and cable positions against your mounting plan. Confirm this before buying, as not every tablet is designed for fixed installation.
