Chromebooks are laptops that run ChromeOS, suited to students, families and offices that work mostly in a web browser and with web apps. Our range covers clamshell and convertible models from Acer and ASUS, with screens from 11.6 to 16 inches.
How to choose a Chromebook
Screen size and resolution. A 14-inch screen is the most common size in our range, with 15.6-inch, 16-inch and 11.6-inch models also available. Most models offer 1920 x 1200 pixels (WUXGA), and that taller 16:10 shape shows more of a document or web page than a standard 1920 x 1080 panel. A 1366 x 768 screen is fine for basic tasks but looks coarse for text-heavy work.
Processor. Intel N-series chips handle browsing, video calls, documents and streaming comfortably. Intel Core 3 and Core 5 models are the better choice if you keep many tabs open, run Android or Linux apps, or expect the laptop to stay useful for several years. We also stock a model with a MediaTek Kompanio processor, an Arm-based chip designed for light everyday use.
Storage type and capacity. Our Chromebooks come with 64 GB, 128 GB or 256 GB. ChromeOS keeps most files in the cloud, so 64 GB is enough for many users, while 128 GB or 256 GB suits those who save files offline or install several apps. SSD storage is generally quicker than eMMC, so it is worth choosing if speed when starting up and opening apps matters to you.
Clamshell or convertible. A clamshell is a traditional laptop and the simpler option for typing and general use. A convertible folds back into a tablet or tent position and has a touchscreen, which helps for note-taking, drawing and presenting.
Update support. Google guarantees ChromeOS updates for a fixed number of years that depends on the model. Check the automatic update expiry date for the model you are considering, especially if the laptop is for school or a long-term purchase.

Chromebook FAQ
What is a Chromebook and how is it different from a normal laptop?
A Chromebook is a laptop that runs ChromeOS, Google's operating system, instead of Windows or macOS. It starts quickly, is built around the Chrome browser and Google services, and needs little maintenance. The trade-off is that traditional Windows programs do not run on it.
Can a Chromebook be used without an internet connection?
Yes, to a degree. With some setup in advance, Gmail, Google Docs and Google Drive files can be used offline, and many Chromebooks also run Android apps that work without a connection. Tasks that rely on web services, such as video calls, still need internet access.
How much storage do I need on a Chromebook?
For browsing, streaming and cloud documents, 64 GB is usually enough. Choose 128 GB or 256 GB if you download files, install many apps or use Linux software. Because ChromeOS itself takes up part of the space, the usable capacity is a little lower than the figure on the box.
Is a Chromebook good for school or university?
Yes, a Chromebook suits most coursework that is done in a browser, such as writing, research, presentations and online lessons. A convertible with a touchscreen is handy for handwritten notes. Check that any specialist software your course requires has a web or Android version before you buy.
