How to choose a projector mount
Mounting surface. Decide first whether the projector will hang from a ceiling or sit on a wall. Ceiling mounts are the usual choice for a projector that sits in the middle of a room, while a wall bracket suits a room where the projector must stay close to the back or side wall.
Weight and fixing pattern. Check that the mount's maximum load is comfortably above the weight of your projector, and that its arms can be adjusted to your projector's mounting holes. Most universal mounts have adjustable arms, but the hole spacing in the projector's manual is the figure to compare. Some brand-specific mounts are made for particular projector models only.
Adjustment and alignment. Look for tilt, swivel and rotation so you can square the image to the screen without moving the projector itself. Fine adjustment matters more than it seems, because a projector that is a few degrees off will produce a skewed picture that digital correction can only partly fix.
Drop length. In rooms with a high ceiling, the projector has to hang down to the height of the screen. Extendable poles or fixed extension tubes let you set that distance, so measure from the ceiling to the point where the lens needs to sit before ordering.
Cables and security. Choose a mount that lets you route power and video cables neatly, ideally through the pole or arm. In schools, offices and other shared spaces, a mount with a lockable or tamper-resistant fixing makes it harder for the projector to be removed.

How do I know if a projector mount will fit my projector?
Compare the mount's maximum load and hole spacing with your projector's weight and the mounting points on its underside. Both are listed in the projector's manual or specification sheet. If the mount has adjustable arms, the spacing only needs to fall within its stated range.
Can I mount a projector on a wall instead of the ceiling?
Yes, provided you choose a bracket made for wall use and the wall can carry the load. Solid masonry is straightforward, while plasterboard needs suitable fixings or a support behind it. A wall mount also places the projector at the side or back of the room, so check that the throw distance still reaches your screen.
Do I need an extension pole for my projector mount?
You need one if the ceiling is high and the projector has to hang lower to line up with the screen. In a room with an ordinary ceiling height, a short mount is usually enough. Measure the distance from the ceiling to the lens position you want before deciding.
How far should a projector be from the screen?
It depends on the projector's throw ratio and the picture size you want, so the manual or the manufacturer's throw calculator gives the correct distance. Short-throw models can sit close to the screen, while standard models need several metres. Decide the position first, then choose a mount that can place the projector there.
