USB and video cables

USB and video cables

USB and video cables link a PC to monitors, peripherals and other devices, and this category suits builders and upgraders who need one specific lead for a desktop setup. The range is small, with three products from GAMEMAX and PIXMINDS, so it works best when you already know which connection you are missing.

How to choose USB and video cables

Connector type. Check the ports on both devices before anything else. USB-A, USB-C and micro-USB are not interchangeable without an adapter, and the same goes for HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI and VGA on the video side. Read the connector names on the product page rather than guessing from the photo.

Standard and bandwidth. The version matters as much as the plug. A USB 3.0 cable moves data far faster than a USB 2.0 one, and a newer HDMI or DisplayPort cable is needed for high resolutions and high refresh rates. If you run a 4K or high refresh rate monitor, confirm that the cable supports it.

Length. Buy the shortest cable that reaches comfortably without strain on the connectors. Very long passive cables can lose signal quality, especially for video at high resolutions, so measure the route behind the desk or inside the case first.

Internal or external use. Some cables are meant to sit inside a PC case, for example to extend a connector to the front panel, while others run between devices on your desk. Make sure the product is designed for the job you have in mind, as the connectors and routing are different.

Build quality. Well-fitting, firmly moulded connectors and decent shielding help keep the connection stable and cut interference. This is particularly relevant for video cables running close to power cables.

USB and video cable brands we carry

  • GAMEMAX: known for PC cases, power supplies and cooling products aimed at gaming builds, which makes its cables a natural fit for a case or power supply upgrade.

Also in our range: PIXMINDS.

USB and video cables: frequently asked questions

Can a USB cable carry video?

Some can, but not all. A USB-C cable can carry a video signal to a monitor only if the ports on both devices support video output and the cable is rated for it. A plain USB-A cable or a basic USB-C charging cable will not do this.

Should I choose HDMI or DisplayPort?

Use whichever your monitor and graphics card both offer, and prefer DisplayPort if you need a high refresh rate on a PC monitor. HDMI is more common on televisions and works well for general use. Both standards come in several versions, so check what your devices support.

Does cable length affect picture or data quality?

Yes, it can. Longer cables, particularly passive ones, are more likely to cause signal dropouts or limit the maximum resolution and speed. For a desk setup, a cable of one to two metres is usually enough, so avoid buying extra length you do not need.

How do I know a cable will fit my PC?

Compare the connector on the cable with the port on your motherboard, graphics card or monitor. Look at the connector type, the version and the stated length on the product page. If the two ends do not match, you will need a different cable or an adapter.
