Surveillance camera parts are the supporting components for CCTV and IP security systems: power supplies, mounting brackets, cables, connectors, housings and storage. They suit homeowners and installers who need to repair, extend or tidy up an existing setup rather than buy a whole new system.
No products are listed in this category at the moment, so the guidance below is general.
How to choose surveillance camera parts
Compatibility. Check the camera type and model before buying anything. Analogue HD and IP systems use different cabling and recorders, and many brackets and housings are shaped for a specific camera body, so a part that fits one model may not fit another.
Power. Most security cameras run on 12 V DC, while IP cameras may instead take power over their Ethernet cable (PoE). Match the voltage and plug polarity exactly, and choose an adapter whose amperage covers every camera connected to it, with some spare capacity.
Cables and connectors. Analogue cameras normally use coaxial cable with BNC connectors, and IP cameras use Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet. Measure the run before you buy, because signal quality drops over distance and a standard Ethernet run is limited to about 100 metres.
Weather protection. Outdoor parts should have an IP rating, and IP66 or IP67 is common for housings and junction boxes. Brackets in corrosion-resistant metal or UV-stable plastic last longer on exposed walls and poles, and a sealed junction box keeps joins dry.
Storage. A recorder writes video around the clock, so look for hard drives sold for surveillance use rather than ordinary desktop drives. Capacity needed depends on the number of cameras, their resolution and how many days of footage you want to keep.
Brands and range
No brands are listed in this category at the moment. When products are added, these are the part groups shoppers usually look for:
- Power supplies, PoE injectors and power splitters for multi-camera setups
- Wall, ceiling and pole brackets, plus junction boxes and housings
- Coaxial, BNC, Ethernet and DC connector cables and adapters
- Surveillance-rated hard drives and memory cards for recording

Frequently asked questions
Can I use any power supply with a security camera?
No, the supply must match the camera's voltage and plug polarity. Most cameras use 12 V DC, but some use 24 V AC or PoE. Using the wrong voltage can damage the camera or leave it unable to start.
What cable do I need for a CCTV camera?
It depends on the system type. Analogue cameras use coaxial cable with BNC connectors, often combined with a separate power lead. IP cameras use Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet, which can carry both video and power if the camera and recorder support PoE.
How far can a security camera be from the recorder?
An Ethernet-connected IP camera can usually be up to about 100 metres from its switch or recorder. Coaxial runs for analogue cameras can be longer, depending on the cable quality and camera resolution. For longer distances, a switch or extender is normally needed to keep the signal stable.
Do I need weatherproof parts for outdoor cameras?
Yes, anything exposed to rain, dust or direct sun should be weather-rated. Look for an IP65 or higher rating on housings and junction boxes, and use sealed connectors where cables join. Even a weatherproof camera can fail early if its connections are left unprotected.
