Security software

Security software

Security software in our range covers business endpoint protection, device management and encryption, firewall licences and support, and home antivirus. It suits households, small businesses and IT administrators who need to protect many devices. Leading brands include Trend Micro, Lenovo, Microsoft and Fortinet, with Norton and Avast among the home options.

How to choose security software

Home or business use. Home antivirus is sold per device or per household and is managed by the user. Business security software is sold per seat and includes a central console, so an administrator can see threats, push updates and apply policies across the whole company.

Number of devices and licence term. Count every laptop, desktop, server and phone that needs cover, then add a few spare seats for new starters. Licences are normally sold for a fixed period, often one or more years, so check the term and the renewal arrangements before you order.

Platforms covered. Make sure the licence supports your operating systems, whether Windows, macOS, Android, iOS or servers. Some products protect only Windows PCs, while others cover mixed fleets, and this matters if staff use their own phones for work.

Management and extra features. Encryption, remote locking, device tracking and mobile device management are separate needs from basic malware scanning. If laptops leave the office, look in the device management and encryption section for tools that can find, lock or wipe a lost machine.

Firewall licence and support level. A firewall licence must match the make and model of your appliance. Check whether it includes threat signature updates, web filtering and manufacturer support, since an appliance without a current subscription loses much of its protection.

Security software brands we carry

Security software FAQ

What is the difference between home and business antivirus?

Business antivirus adds central management, while home antivirus is set up device by device. A business product lets an administrator deploy protection, enforce policies and view alerts from one console. Home products are simpler and usually cheaper per device, but they are not designed to manage a whole company.

Do I still need antivirus if Windows has Microsoft Defender built in?

Microsoft Defender gives basic protection on Windows, but many users add third-party software for extra features. These can include a firewall, password management, web protection or central management. For a business, a managed endpoint product also provides reporting and control that a built-in tool alone does not offer.

What does a firewall licence include?

A firewall licence is a subscription that keeps the appliance up to date and supported. It typically covers security signature updates and manufacturer support, and sometimes features such as web filtering. The exact contents depend on the vendor and the licence type, so check that it matches your appliance model.

What is device management and encryption software used for?

It is used to control and protect company devices and the data stored on them. Device management lets an administrator configure settings, apply policies and lock or wipe a lost device. Encryption makes the stored data unreadable without the right credentials, which limits the damage if a laptop is stolen.
